AMSR-E Instrument

The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for the Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) is a passive microwave radiometer flown aboard the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Aqua satellite. AMSR-E is designed to detect water in all its state phases in the environment. As such, the AMSR-E instrument monitors the water processes that exert a strong influence on climate and weather. The environmental parameters that can be measured by AMSR-E include precipitation, oceanic water vapor, cloud water, near-surface ocean wind speed, sea surface temperature, soil moisture, snow cover, and sea ice.
